Best Innovation: Native Instruments Maschine Studio

The only difficult thing about writing about Maschine is describing what it actually is. We went for NI’s own ‘groove-production studio’ in the end as that just about covers it. In practice it combines the best of hardware and software to enable you to come up with patterns and compositions with minimal effort. ‘NI has well and truly ushered in a new era of hardware control and composition,’ we said, and you agreed.

Other innovators: 2013 was a great year for innovation. Zynaptic Unfilter is an incredibly innovative plug that enables you to lose the filter effect on an audio sample, while Ohm Force Ohm Studio is just as innovative in the world of collaboration. For anyone wondering, littleBits Synth Kit (see p74 for the full review) falls into 2014 as this is the January Issue, so it might just appear next year…
