Tell us about PäPöNoize Studio, Pablo.
PäPöNoize Studio has been around for only six months and is located at a chalet in Salamanca, Spain. It was created to improve publicity and enhance my compositions and music arrangements. I feel the studio is more like a home studio than a regular one. I’ve tried to build a space that feels modern, while boosting my creativity and workflow, with clean StudioDesk furniture and zen decor.
I love natural sunlight in the day and multicolour LED lights at night, so designs started with light in mind. The perfect workspace, with a clear head and a heart full of passion. That’s what I strive for.
Which DAW do you use and why?
I’ve been using Reason Studios’ DAW since Reason 5, up through to Reason 11 because of its workflow, stability and MIDI control. Composing with Reason is always a great pleasure, full of possibilities. In live performance settings, I use Ableton Live with the Reason Rack VST and Push 2 as a controller.
What is your favourite piece of gear and why?
I bought Ableton Push 2 as a controller for live sound performance at shows. It works as a mixing desk, finger drumming set, scene controller, as well as a great composition and editing tool. I’m convinced Push 2 is the most versatile controller on the market.
How much time do you spend in your studio per week?
I’m a music teacher and flute performer by day, so I spend only 2-3 hours a day in the studio, but not always. If I have too much work in the studio, I usually work past midnight and at weekends.
How do you use your studio?
I mainly work as a music composer for advertising, cartoons and video games. I like to prepare and practice DJ sessions at the studio too. Currently, I’m reorganising it as a classroom space to teach flute, music and production.
What is next on your shopping list studio-wise and why?
I need more acoustic treatment, it’s very important in a good studio. The ceiling is big and very high…
My gear and instruments are perfect for me right now, but I’m very picky with the acoustics. It is my biggest frustration with the studio right now
What is your dream piece of gear and why?
I love BIG mixing consoles! My dream piece of gear is the latest console from Behringer, the futuristic Wing. I don’t really need it but I love those screens and lights!
What is your top piece of production advice?
Be kind to others, persevere with yourself and always give yourself time to learn.
What is the one piece of advice you would give someone starting out building a studio?
Starting out building a studio is expensive, hard and discouraging… But when you hit the play button and you hear your music, the world stops. My advice? Do it!
