The Focusrite Group, responsible for Focusrite interfaces and Novation synthesizers, has bought ADAM Audio, best known for its studio monitors. This rounds out the Focusrite Group’s product offering to encompass music creation, recording technology and now, listening and monitoring hardware. ADAM Audio will continue to operate autonomously from its Berlin HQ with no suggestion that Nashville or Dongguan sales locations will be affected.

The acquisition of Pro Audio GmbH, which owns ADAM Audio and its operations abroad, reportedly cost 18 million Euros, and is Focusrite’s first since going public in 2014. ADAM Audio joining the fold is being heralded by Focusrite founder and chairman Phil Dudderidge as “an important new addition to our family of brands,” saying the company will be “removing the technical barriers that frustrate artists seeking to record and reveal their true sound”. MusicTech can see that consumers could stand to benefit, in both the professional and budget brackets, with potential for product bundling and integration of technologies to create more complete and intuitive studio solutions.

Tim Carroll, CEO of the Focusrite Group is claiming that this acquisition will lead to a renewed and stronger focus on innovation, saying that “with so much expertise between us in acoustics, sound reproduction, DSP, and control, the opportunities are abundant to refine recording and production workflows together.”

Christian Hellinger, who will continue to lead ADAM Audio, says his focus will remain on “creating future-oriented innovative professional monitoring and loudspeaker technologies.”

There’s no word yet on what this acquisition means for KRK, who are distributed by Focusrite in the UK. However, we’ve reached out to a company representative and will be updating this story if more information emerges.
