NAMM 2020 Demo: The Akai MPC One combines features from legendary and modern models

NAMM 2020: Akai debuted the new MPC One at NAMM this week, combining features from legacy and modern models. It features 16 velocity-sensitive RGB pads, a seven-inch multi-touch display, 2GB RAM with 4GB storage, and eight outputs.

Akai’s MPC series quickly became studio essentials for producers working with samples after its inception. J Dilla, Moodymann, Kanye West and MF DOOM are just some of the names that have paid testament to the power of the MPC. The more modern devices, like MPC Live, took a different route to its analogue predecessors, with an enhanced graphic display, more intricate arrangement options and further portability with a lithium-ion battery. It seems Akai has combined the best of both worlds in the creation of MPC One.

MPC One uses the native MPC software, as with its other digital siblings, meaning the production device can be used standalone, without having to rely on a computer with a DAW. It features network connectivity, Splice integration and CV/Gate connectors, allowing you to grab your sounds swiftly and get working with them straight away. MPC One also comes preloaded with 2GB of drum samples and loop collections, which have been selected purposefully to take full advantage of this new hardware.

With signature synth engines, Electric, Tubesynth and Bassline, MPC one lets you create your own sounds too, and utilise AIR FX to mix and master with ease and professionalism. 4GB onboard storage, plus USB flash and SD Card storage allows you to save sounds and projects. MIDI In/Out is featured on the device, plus four TRS CV/Gate jacks to connect to your other studio gear. “With MPC One, artists have everything they need to deliver impressive, professional productions and streaming-ready records”, Akai says.
