UK-based audio manufacturer Audient has announced that its long-awaited EVO 8 is now shipping. Albeit small in size, EVO 8 is the big brother to the highly-acclaimed EVO 4. It comes with the promise that can “make recording easy” for recording artists and “work smarter, not harder”, the brand says.

Size matters not

EVO 8’s name alludes to the four inputs and four outputs it features. Built with four clean, high-performance mic preamps with 58dB gain-range and class-leading converters with a 113dB dynamic range, the interface may just prove that size isn’t everything in the professional realm.

In our review of the EVO 4, which uses the same preamps and converters we said: “the preamps and converters deliver clean and uncoloured sound with impressive definition, fidelity and features”. The sleek, compact EVO 8 also boasts ultra-low latency, dedicated EVO mixing software and audio loop-back functionality.

Easy access

Designed for everyone from beatmakers to video game streamers, the EVO 8 comes with Audient’s Smartgain feature. This automatically sets the gain levels when the user starts playing, singing or talking. Two smart touch points allow you to control speakers, headphones and channels all with one volume encoder.

Multi-function buttons will let you quickly mute desired channels, while SmartMuting will automatically mute the speaker outputs when connecting a set of headphones into the headphone port. Audient EVO 8 is bus-powered by USB-C for supreme portability.

Audient’s marketing director, Andy Allen explains, “We still want to make technology accessible for all, no matter the skill-level or art form. EVO 8 has all the same features as EVO 4 with more inputs & outputs so you’re getting more bang for your buck. EVO 8’s additional inputs can really broaden your options: whether that means more musicians playing together, better definition recording instruments using multiple mics or just more guests on your podcast. It’s still all about making great-sounding recordings as easy and effortless as possible.”

The Audient EVO 8 is shipping now and is expected in some markets from early to mid-October, while European customers may have to hold on until mid-November. It might be worth the wait though, especially considering how well-loved the EVO 4 was – and considering the price tag is an affordable £160/€190/€199.
