Avid responds to coronavirus with free temporary licenses for active users
On-the-house licenses for existing users stuck at home
Avid has announced that it is issuing temporary licenses to active users who’ve been asked to work from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 90-day licenses are for Pro Tools and Pro Tools Ultimate, and the Ultimate versions of scoring software Sibelius and video editor Media Composer.
Responding to social-distancing measures being taken around the world, Avid offers this as a means to keep professionals and students working from the safety of their homes. A statement from the company’s COVID-19 page reads:
“To assist our community in delivering their projects and assignments while working remotely due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Avid is providing temporary licenses of our creative tools to qualified media enterprise and educational customers at no charge.”
Who qualifies for this?
The scheme is targeted at professionals and students, and as such, will require organisations to apply on the users’ behalf. Companies can apply for their full-time, contractual and freelance staff and schools are able to apply in bulk for students.
It’s also worth noting that in order to qualify, the company or school must already own either an active subscription or be under an active upgrade and support contract.
Avid has also stated that “A maximum of one license will be provided per one owned and active license.”
While it may not be quite as exciting as the giveaways we’ve seen from brands such as Moog, Native Instruments and Korg, it should help some user continue their work while staying at home.
