As tours and live shows are cancelled across the world, more indie artists are performing online.

Bandsintown

Bandsintown is supporting independent artists with a feature that pushes out a ‘watch live’ notification when performers are live streaming shows on Twitch. These notifications pop up on Bandsintown, Facebook pages, Instagram Stories and other places that show Bandsintown listings. These live streams are humorously being referred to as ‘quaranstreams’, as COVID-19 forces musicians inside.

The company usually lists live shows and performances but has partnered with Twitch to support the steep rise in live streaming. Musicians with 2,000 or more trackers on Bandsintown can apply for Twitch Affiliate status, which will quickly pave the way for artists to monetize their streams. This lets them receive tips and subscriptions, which could fill the financial gap that may come with less live shows. SoundCloud has also made movements to make this process easy for creators.

By now it should be pretty common knowledge that the live music industry is grinding to a halt, with concerts and shows pretty much banned across the globe. In these uncertain times, independent artists (almost all artists, in fact, including Robbie Williams) have taken to online streaming platforms to continue engaging with fans and performing.

Bandsintown has launched its own Twitch channel, too, with all donations going to MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund. It’s already had South African DJ Black Coffee perform, and will be running a live music marathon on 26 and 27 March 2020. You can see the full Bandsintown schedule here.
