Behringer Pro-800

Behringer’s PRO-800.

Behringer is back at it again. The brand has taken to social media to preview its take on the Sequential Prophet 600. Dubbed the Behringer PRO-800, the eight-voice analogue synth was designed with GliGli, who released a mod for the original Prophet 600 of 1982, which improved its functionality with a dedicated vibrato, faster envelope generators, unison detune, full MIDI In control of parameters and more.

Information on the new synth is minimal, with the Facebook post only detailing that it sports eight voices – two more than the original Prophet 600 – with a dual VCO and a potential price tag of less than $600.

No doubt this is good news for producers on a budget or simply looking for a synth bargain. However, Behringer has become somewhat infamous within the music technology community for announcing new products months – sometimes years – ahead of their on-sale date. A recent example is the RD-9, the TR-909 clone which has been anticipated for around two years now. The same can be said of its upcoming ARP-2600 clone. In Behringer’s defence, it did publish a recent update on the progress of the RD-9, citing bugs in the firmware as the hold-up.
