Behringer Wasp has landed

Another day, another Behringer story. We knew this was coming though, didn’t we? The Behringer Wasp is here, with a full eight minutes of demo footage. The new hardware module is based on the classic EDP Wasp, which was famous for many of its features. One of them was its strange, flat keyboard made with conductive copper plates. Behringer has ditched the keyboard, and packed the sound of its dual oscillators and filters into a black and yellow Eurorack solution, at a much more affordable price than the original might currently go for.
The hybrid synthesiser sports an authentic reproduction of the original Wasp Deluxe circuitry, with an analogue signal path based on the VCF and VCA designs. Three variable oscillator shapes are on offer, with pulse/ramp and enhanced mode for “ultimate sounds” as the company eloquently puts it. A multi-mode VCF can function in low pass, high pass, bandpass and notch modes. Two envelope generators are onboard for modulation of VCF and VCA.
Wasp’s LFO features six waveform shapes, including noise and Sample & Hold with frequency and pitch modulation control. 16-voice Poly Chain will allow you to combine multiple synthesises for up to 16 voices of polyphony. Altogether, 29 controls are present to give you access to the available parameters. External audio input allows for processing external sound, and USB/MIDI implementation has channel and Voice Priority selection.
