Beyerdynamic has unveiled two new PRO X microphones and has expanded on the legacy of its revered DT 770 and DT 990 PRO headphones with new PRO X iterations.

The new PRO X series, tailored to creators, consists of the DT 700 PRO X and DT 900 PRO X headphones, and the M 70 PRO X and M 90 PRO X microphones. Beyerdynamic touts the headphones as “top class”, with “trusted sound quality” and maximum comfort. It also claims that the new microphones are “a must-have for creators”.

DT 700 PRO X

The closed-back DT 700 PRO X are primed for producing in the studio and on-the-go with a laptop, tablet or smartphone. Hand-crafted in Germany, the headphones boast an “exceptional sound profile”, Beyerdynamic says, thanks to the STELLAR.45 driver with an impedance of 48 ohms. They also boast soft, replaceable velour ear pads and a headband pad that ergonomically adapts to the head for comfortable listening.

In our review, we said: “The closed-back DT 700 PRO X is a superb choice for tracking and private listening, offering near-perfect isolation from headphone spill whilst still remaining relatively comfortable…The new drivers pack a serious punch and the relatively low impedance works well for us.”

DT 900 PRO X

On the more premium side of the PRO X series is the open-back DT 900 PRO X headphones. These are geared towards users in need of a monitoring solution during critical listening periods, such as mixing and mastering. They also feature a STELLAR.45 driver with 48 ohms impedance, soft replaceable ear pads and an adaptable headband. Both headphones come with a gold-plated mini stereo jack connector and quarter-inch adapter.

In our review, we said: “The 900 PRO X pair excels in mixing and mastering applications. Whilst leakage from the open-back design precludes them from private listening and various recording situations, it is not excessive or distorted for the casual bystander, unlike competing headphones in the same price range – a real plus point”

Both headphones are available at a price of €249 each. Our verdict is: “All in all, both sets of headphones are powerful performers at their price point, giving us a great sense of immersion in the music. They also offer a trusted build quality that users can invest in knowing that parts can be replaced, and that they aren’t going to be flimsy.”

M 70 PRO X

Beyerdynamic’s M 70 PRO X dynamic microphone has a balanced frequency response and is geared toward capturing vocals. Designed both for singers and content creators, the cardioid-pattern microphone features a “speech-optimised sound”, says Beyerdynamic, that performs excellently in challenging acoustic environments.

In our review, we said: “Sharp focus and excellent room-rejection characteristics are two attributes that will win the M 70 PRO X many fans. Not everyone has the luxury of an acoustically damped studio, so as long as you’re not broadcasting from an echo-drenched bathroom or kitchen, your voice should remain crisp and dry.”

M 90 PRO X

Meanwhile, the M 90 PRO X condenser microphone is ideal for capturing high-quality audio of vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, strings, speech, and percussion. It can also be used for recording the ambience of a space. The 34 mm true condenser capsule is paired with extremely low-noise circuitry and optimum attenuation of popping sounds, resulting in a “naturally warm sound”.

In our review, we said: “The midrange is clear and accurate, with good detailing and natural presence…Placed around two feet in front of a Fender Bassman cab, the M 90 PRO X comes into its own, capturing all the weight and power produced by the speaker.”

The M 70 PRO X is available for €249, while the M 90 PRO X is €299.
