CrushShaper brings new creative dimensions to bitcrushing
Cableguys’ new plug-in combines three styles of digital distortion
David Guetta, Steve Aoki and Khaliq Glover are among the higher-profile artists with Cableguys’ plug-ins in their arsenal, and CrushShaper could be the next addition to yours. CrushShaper allows you to create unique digital distortion patterns, per-note multiband crushing and downsampled grooves in a quick and easy way.
The advanced bitcrushing plug-in offers three styles of lo-fi manipulation to get playful with. Crunch adds fuzz, grind and grit to your sounds, Bits reduces the audio resolution down to 8-bit and beyond, and Resample is used to create digital overtones and achieve that low-resolution retro sound. Create a custom LFO and envelope follower to apply them in your own way, and use the FX Mix section to filter and layer with the dry signal.
Using the Pens tool, you’re able to draw lines, arcs and S-curves into your LFO, taking bitcrushing modulation to a new level. Multiband bitcrushing can be achieved in CrushShaper, with three selectable bands to target your distortion to specific frequency bands. Rhythmise your midrange with bit patterns with the flexible envelope followers, which react to your beats, loops and melodies.
Going further into creative sound design, CrushShaper will let you “create ‘talking’ robot synths, gnarly speaker-rattling bass growls and old-school downsampled drums. Transform even the plainest loops into inspiration track-starting rhythms to fuel your next track!”, the brand says.
CrushShaper runs in Cableguys’ ShaperBox 2 multi-effects plug-in and can be purchased on its own or as part o the ShaperBox 2 Bundle, which comes with six Cableguys Shapers. If you’re already a user of ShaperBox 2, CrushShaper will be a free download.
CrushShaper is available now at €39 / $44 for new customers. Find out more at cableguys.com
