Singapore-based manufacturer CME Pro has unveiled the WIDI Jack, a wireless solution for connecting MIDI devices via Bluetooth. According to the company, the device offers a low-latency communication of 3ms between two WIDI products.

In December 2019, the company released WIDI Master, its first Bluetooth MIDI adapter, which was described by the MIDI Association as a “milestone in Bluetooth MIDI”. Now, CME takes things a step further with WIDI Jack, which offers all connectivity solutions that WIDI Master didn’t. With bi-directional communication, WIDI Jack can send information from any hardware equipped with a MIDI connection.

This means you can connect two standalone MIDI hardware devices by using two WIDI Jacks or pair a Bluetooth MIDI controller with standalone hardware. You can even pair your MIDI hardware with an iOS device or a Mac. WIDI Jack’s connectivity capabilities make it more of a MIDI interface compared to WIDI Master, which was just an adapter. The Bluetooth MIDI standards have also been approved by the MIDI Association, ensuring a secure, stable connection between devices.

With Automatic Pairing Mode, WIDI Jack can automatically pair with any other WIDI product, allowing a swift setup process. The range of the device reaches up to 20m inside without any obstacles with an even further range outside.

In a testimony on the CME website, Moog Music’s CTO, Cyril Lance, said “I was lucky enough to be able to start working with a pair of prototype WIDI adapters from CME. They worked flawlessly and transparently – which is the goal of any good technology solution. I was very happy with them. It made connecting instruments to each other quick and easy without cabling or any setup even for instruments from different eras. For example, I immediately had our flagship synthesizer, the Moog One, controlling and being controlled by our older MIDI instruments and vintage MIDI controllers.

Additionally, WIDI makes it easy and transparent to connect any of our MIDI gear directly to a Bluetooth enabled device – most importantly for me, the iOS environment (iPads and iPhones) allowing me to quickly test features and connectivity without any setup and configuration hassles. For product development, this was a huge asset!”

The WIDI Jack is yet to go into the pre-ordering phase but is expected to cost $59, with a 50% discount being offered to those who register their interest now.
