Denon DJ’s Engine PRIME v1.5 introduces all-new BPM detection and Sync Manager

A new algorithm makes track analysis faster and more accurate.

The music management software for Denon DJ devices, Engine PRIME, has been updated to version 1.5. The new version introduces a new BPM detection algorithm, Sync Manager, metadata batch editing and track preview. This free update is touted by Denon DJ as the application’s biggest feature release to date and aims to make DJing on the brand’s hardware easier than ever. Engine PRIME v1.5 comes concurrently as Pioneer DJ’s rekordbox 6.0.1 update, which is Denon DJ’s main competitor.

The new Sync Manager makes file transfers between devices easy, thanks to the ability to select multiple Crates and Playlists to export to connected devices with a single click. The Sync Manager window will also display the space required to transfer selected Crates and Playlists, and how much space is available on the connected device. Hot cues, loops and beat grid changes made on the Denon DJ Engine OS hardware devices can be synced back to the Engine PRIME software, too.

Denon DJ has built a new BPM detection algorithm from the ground up, which is “lightning fast and provides highly accurate results”. BPM analysis in Engine PRIME 1.5 and beat grid downbeat placement will be far more accurate than its previous iterations.

Track Preview offers a more efficient way to preview and prepare tracks during a set. A new column lets you audition a track without loading it into the deck, which may save some paper cut moments when hunting for your next floor filler. The new feature is deployed by clicking on the track’s waveform in the track list. The previewable waveform column is scalable and provides hot cue markers to indicate tracks that have already been prepared.

Multiple tracks can now have their metadata altered in Engine Prime v1.5. With this new batch editing feature, tidying up music collections will be much quicker.

Other improvements

Along with the major updates above, Engine PRIME v1.5 also introduces some general improvements. This includes Local Collection Backup and Restore, improved Beat Grid editing, Deck Eject and User Preference Support for the Denon DJ SC6000/M, PRIME 2 and PRIME GO.

“This update is a big step forward for Engine PRIME,” said Jason Stout, Product Marketing Manager for Engine DJ. He added, “Our aim with each software release is to provide DJs with useful tools that improve and speed up the preparation process. Sync Manager, track preview, and batch editing are all massive time savers that enable the DJ to spend less time preparing and more time in the mix.”
