DPA Microphones designs a reporters’ mic for socially distanced interviews

Taking a leaf out of its own book, DPA Microphones has created a new version of the supercardioid 4097 Choir Mic that caters for reporters and journalists. The 4097 CORE Micro Shotgun Mic has been optimised to pick up speech from a distance and is incorporated into the 4097 CORE Interview kit. The interview kit includes a lightweight boom and windjammer, making the bundle an ideal solution for working journalists, who can maintain a distance of two metres while conducting interviews. The plug-and-play design of this kit lets users get working quickly where speed and ease-of-use are critical.
The DPA 4097 CORE Interview Kit includes DPA’s new 4099 Cold Shoe Mount, which features a one-quarter-inch thread, plus a DPA MicroDot cable, transmitter plate, lightweight telescopic boom pole to further ensure social distancing measures, and a windjammer to provide ideal conditions for outdoor productions.
Featuring a DPA MicroDot connection, the 4097 CORE Micro Shotgun can attach directly to a transmitter or be used with DPA’s 4099 series mounts, clamps and clips, for easy mounting on any surface. The MicroDot connector means that a DPA adapter can be attached for a range of wired or wireless applications.
The 4097 CORE Micro Shotgun can also be used to capture voice-overs from reporters, which are typically completed after an interview. The mic’s qualities provide significant attenuation of background noise when compared to a standard omnidirectional lavalier mic. With speech intelligibility at the top of DPA’s development requirements, the 4097 CORE Micro Shotgun features 16 mV sensitivity and is capable of handling high SPLs.
