Aphex Twin sells an NFT with Weirdcore for over $128,000

The artist says that a portion of the money may go towards permaculture projects and planting trees.

Aphex Twin has decided it’s time to get in on the NFT action. He surprised fans with an NFT auction this week, selling a 1 of 1 mint of a collaborative project with Weirdcore, a visual artist who is a notable Novation user.

The legendary electronic music producer, real name Richard D. James, sold the NFT for 72 Ethereum on Sunday 14 March. This was equivalent to around $128,500 at the time of sale.

NFTs have rapidly become a controversial subject matter. Although artists have been making a lot of money selling their work as NFTs, critics are conscious of the environmental impact the technology may have. This is still up for debate – Tycho and Benn Jordan briefly discussed the impact last week.

Aphex Twin announced that he and his team will “spend a portion of the money” from the auction on “planting trees and either donating to permaculture projects or setting them up ourselves, depending on how much we get.”
