Clearmountain’s Spaces by Apogee lets music-makers reproduce Bob Clearmountain’s personalised reverb workflow, with three impulse response room and chamber profiles based on the “spaces, dimensions and atmosphere” that the legendary engineer’s mixes are known for.

Each profile – known as a ‘space’ within the plug-in – was recorded and processed by Clearmountain himself. The spaces, Apogee Studio, Mix This! and Roscoe, each demonstrate their own decay time and frequency profile, and can be further intermingled to create complex composite spaces.

Apogee Studio is based on the company’s in-house recording studio, and produces a short and warm reverb, which according to the company is especially potent for use with drum kits and other percussive instruments.

Replicating Clearmountain’s self-designed echo chamber found at his Los Angeles-based recording studio, Mix This! Is described as a bright, medium-length reverb that features a fully stereo impulse response.

The last space, Roscoe, is a long and dark sounding reverb that emphasises atmospheric and dramatic applications. This reverb could be great for use with orchestral scores, or even for foley and sound design purposes.

The plug-in also features presets designed by Clearmountain – with several based on his mixes for The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and more. Clearmountain’s Spaces is based on a segment of the larger Clearmountain’s Domain, a plug-in that recreates his time-based effects signal chain from reverb to de-essing and stereo imaging.

Clearmountain’s Spaces is priced at $49 through the Apogee store; a trial edition for Windows and Mac is also available. See it in action below.
