Audioengine’s A1 Bluetooth desktop speakers are minuscule
These diminutive home listening speakers support the aptX Bluetooth protocol for higher-quality audio and cost just $199.

Independent Austin-based consumer audio manufacturer Audioengine has announced the availability of the A1 Home Music System, which comprises a pair of ultra-compact speakers.
The A1 follows the company’s award-winning A2+ speakers, which picked up an editor’s choice award from The Absolute Sound in 2019.
Each speaker features a 2.75-inch rigid, Kevlar-like composite driver and a .75-inch silk dome tweeter powered by a 60-watt class D amplifier. And, as is common with desktop speakers, the left speaker houses the amp for both left and right.
With such a small system, bass will be on the light side, with a frequency response of 65Hz to 22kHz (±2 dB). However, the A1s have a variable LFE line output for adding a subwoofer.
You can connect via a 3.5mm jack or via Bluetooth. Importantly, the A1 supports SBC, AAC and AptX protocols – the last of which offers near-CD quality digital audio over the air.
Each speaker is smaller than six inches cubed, making them extremely portable and space-efficient. While they won’t challenge studio monitors, they might just make a useful mix reference.
