Previously released as a plug-in, Eventide has announced its Blackhole reverb pedal, which could be an ideal astral co-pilot for your hardware synths and instruments. The Blackhole reverb algorithm is originally found in Eventide’s classic DSP4000 Ultra-Harmonizer and H9 pedal, bringing a supermassive effect into a compact, accessible form factor.

Blackhole lets you load in up to 127 presets via MIDI, which can also be accessed in the preset list in the Eventide Device Manager for PC and Mac. You can then pick five presets to quickly recall using the footswitch, with a row of LEDs indicating which preset you’ve initiated.

You can navigate through the galaxy with a set of onboard parameters including Mix, Size, Gravity, Feedback, plus lo- and hi-cut filters. Further parameters can be accessed with an expression foot controller, pushing the frontiers of spacious possibilities. Gravity is arguably the most unique control on the pedal, letting you set the decay of the reverb tail as normal or inverse, creating truly intriguing effects.

Eventide’s pedal has two types of infinite reverb. Infinite Mode will layer up sounds on top of a suspended reverb, while Freeze Mode will keep the reverb constant with the ability to jam over a prolonged tail. The Freeze footswitch lets you deploy Freeze Mode effortlessly.

On the back of the pedal is a guitar/line level switch which allows easy connectivity to guitars, synths, audio interfaces and more. A single aux switch is available to set up Tap Tempo, while a triple aux switch can be used for preset selection. Multiple bypass options are featured, including Buffered, Relay, DSP+FX or Kill dry. This could all make for a useful hardware effect to send your sounds and samples to. Check out BoBeats using it alongside the Arturia PolyBrute below.

Blackhole is available for $279 from Eventide dealers worldwide and at eventideaudio.com
