Grell Audio has announced the debut of a brand new line of true wireless earphones with the TWS1.

Created by former Sennheiser engineer Axel Grell, the TWS1 touts “audiophile-grade” sound quality, SoundID personalisation and support for Qualcomm’s aptX HD bluetooth codec, which delivers 24-bit audio wirelessly.

The earphones feature Qualcomm Adaptive ANC, as well as Grell’s own noise reduction technology termed Noise Annoyance Reduction (NAR), which catches and reduces frequencies – such as high frequency noises – that typical ANCs have trouble blocking.

Users concerned about call quality will be pleased to learn that the microphone in the TWS1 uses a Multilayer Turbulence Eliminator (MTE) technology that promises low-noise and extra voice clarity.

The TWS1 earbuds also include Bluetooth 5.2 with support for AAC, LDHC, Qualcomm aptX and aptX HD codecs, an IPX4 water resistance rating, a 50m working range and a customisable EQ when used with Sonarworks’ SoundID app.

With the ANC switched on, the TWS1 offers up to 28 hours of playtime (5 hours on each earbud and over 4 full charges in the charging case), a decent performer among earbuds in its price range.

The TWS1 earbuds will be available for pre-sale today (6 October) for £179.99/ €199.99/ $199.99. An exclusive version of the buds – the Drop + Grell TWS1X – will be available via community-driven e-commerce site Drop.com, in November.

The exclusive TWS1X will have an all-black finish while the TWS1 is offered in space-grey. US customers who purchase the Drop + Grell TWS1X version will also receive additional blue wingtip options for an extra personalised and secure listening experience.
