You might be forgiven for pulling Huawei’s FreeBuds Lipstick out and mistaking the glossy black and gold polished stainless steel for an actual lipstick tube, but once the bright ruby red of the FreeBuds reveal themselves it’s quite clear that the Lipstick is an intentional design statement, and a welcome one given how many wireless charging cases out there today look alike.

Where most charging cases take a pill or hockey puck form, the FreeBuds Lipstick has gone for an octagonal case, featuring a stylish gold strip that runs along the length of the case. The top is secured with magnetic attachments, and the design of the charging case slots are meant to evoke the similarities with a lipstick case even further.

The buds included in the case are similar to the FreeBuds 4, and feature 14.3mm dynamic drivers. The buds also come with Huawei’s Open-fit ANC 2.0, a combination of adaptive active noise cancellation and EQ tuning that will select from 16 modes for the best audio quality relative to the user’s surroundings.

Huawei also says each bud is equipped with a bass-enhancing power engine for greater diaphragm vibration resulting in better bass, and employs adaptive ear-matching tech to optimise sound quality based on ear shape.

The buds have 4 hours of battery life without ANC, with a further 22 stored in the charging case. The FreeBuds lipstick is rated IPX4 water-resistant and come with Bluetooth 5.2. No information is currently available on when the Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick will be available or what price point it will retail at, though as the specifications are similar to the FreeBuds 4, a pair should cost more than £119.
