IK Multimedia has added the iRig Micro Amp to its ranks. A new member of the brand’s iRig line, this compact, battery-powered amplifier comes with three analogue channels and an integrated iOS/USB interface. Here’s a brief overview:

Small amp, big sound

Despite its small form, this combo amp is designed to produce 15 watts – or 7.5 watts on six AA batteries – of power that should be sufficient for bedroom noodling and practice sessions.

Out of the box, you’ll have access to three analogue channels – clean, drive and lead – that can be sculpted by a three-band EQ and a gain control. At the output section, the amp is loaded with a single four-inch, custom-voiced speaker and features a four-ohm cabinet output for louder volume.

Besides its in-built tones, the Micro Amp also features an integrated iOS/USB interface, derived from the brand’s iRig HD 2 mobile guitar interface.

By connecting your iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC directly to the amp, you can access IK’s AmpliTube – which comes included – for a range of processing options. The AmpliTube CS app for iPhone/iPad provides 10 amp and 26 stompbox models, while the AmpliTube 4 for Mac/PC has nine amp and 10 stompbox models for free.

Via in-app purchases, you can also access licensed recreations of gear from the likes of Fender, Orange and Mesa Boogie.

Other features

As mentioned earlier, iRig’s Micro Amp requires six AA batteries to run, though you can opt for a nine-volt power supply instead. In addition to its main guitar input, the device also features an aux input and a headphone output for quiet practice.
