Korg Gadget VR

NAMM 2021: Another reveal at this week’s Believe in Music event sees Korg tease its upcoming Korg Gadget VR app, which will put you in an impressive virtual studio.

In Korg’s first look video, the VR upgrade of the Gadget app has 22 virtual screens displaying meters, oscilloscopes, sequencers, and devices. Meanwhile, in front of you, a virtual table has a mixer and a series of instruments that you can “pick up” with a pair of non-articulating simulated hands.

The new technology, powered by Unreal Engine, appears to be running on the $299 Oculus Quest. However, there are no details about which platforms it will support.

There have been several attempts to make a VR studio, but no one has yet cracked the concept. The reason could be the lack of tactility and limitations imposed by gaming controllers, but Korg’s mind-bending interface may compensate for the shortcomings of the format.

Still, we look forward to trying at soon as we can get our (simulated) digits on it.

Limited information is available on korg-us.com.
