Erica Synths SYNTRX

EMS’ Synthi AKS was used by Pink Floyd and Brian Eno, presumably for its ability to instantly create cosmic sounds, with a joy-stick controller, ring modulator and more. SYNTRX is a modern take on the oddity, designed by Erica Synths and Riga Tech University. Listen to the first demo of the all analogue brute.

As you’ll hear, SYNTRX boasts the ability to not only create its own gnarly sounds but also affect the tone of external instruments. The video demonstrates a bass guitar, drum machine and record being mutated by the SYNTRX’s modulators. You can also hook up effects to the output of SYNTRX; in this case, Erica Synths’ has added Zen Delay to the mix. The joy-stick really proves its worth, instantly switching up sounds unpredictably morphing the sound.

Erica Synths says: “SYNTRX [sintrex] is developed from scratch all analogue synthesizer with digitally controlled patch matrix. It features 3 highly accurate VCOs, noise generator with “colour” filter, resonant VCF, ring modulator, spring reverb, looping envelope generator, joystick controller, input amplifier with adjustable gain for microphone to line-level signals, 3 VCAs, output signal filter, analogue CV/audio signal level indicator and built-in speakers”.

This isn’t the first of EMS’ classics to get a reboot, at the end of last year it was announced that Analogue Solutions would remake Colossus, a synth titan that takes up a chunk of studio space. Colossus is not likely to be on everyone’s shopping list, weighing in at £25,000.

You can pre-order SYNTRX now for €2500 at ericasynths.lv.
