MIXROOM is an intelligent EQ plug-in from Mastering The Mix that offers EQ suggestions based on audio analysis, with a unique virtual 3D space.

The intelligent portion of MIXROOM minimises EQ guesswork by offering target suggestions based on an analysis of the track. Particularly, the company has said that the plug-in shoots for maximum clarity within the mid and high-frequency range – offering specifically designed EQ filters that inject life into dull-sounding or otherwise muddy tracks.

For tackling mixes of a particular aesthetic, there are genre and channel-specific target suggestions – with presets ranging from 90s RnB to Indie Rock. The ability to load in your own reference tracks and pull target EQ suggestions from it is also possible.

Manual EQ adjustments are performed in a virtual 3D space – which visualises the frequency spectrum like a room. Overall, it could be an intuitive way to approach EQ – particularly with its mid-side specific EQ functions – as the four frequency bands can be ‘positioned’ and manipulated on an XYZ axis.

The plug-in also takes into consideration how perceived loudness might be affected by EQ settings, and indicates when changes over 2dB have been made. This level discrepancy can be rectified by matching output levels to a level match pointer.

If you’re looking for a plug-in to curb your low-end specifically, Mastering The Mix also previously released BASSROOM, a bass-focused mastering EQ that sports a similar virtual room space UI.

MIXROOM retails for $87, learn more about it on masteringthemix.com
