MeldaProduction has launched a free grand piano virtual instrument, sampled from an instrument found in a monastery near Pilsen, Czech Republic. MonasteryGrand’s library of sounds was comprehensively recorded with 16 microphones in order to produce realistic piano sounds; but, it’s this plug-in’s creative mode that makes it a more experimental prospect.

Music-makers can craft their ideal piano sounds through a blend of three microphone mixes; decide the ‘anatomy’ of the piano with parameters for release time, size and ambience; and make adjustments specific to only high keys. There are also controls for deciding how colourful or wide the piano sounds, as well as timbre adjustment parameters for bass, body and air.

Added on to this are several onboard effects such as delay, reverb, compression and an enhancer.

Switching over to MonasteryGrandCreative, the plug-in takes on a wholly different operation. Its sounds are based on a looped version of the original samples, meaning that keys can ring out indefinitely. This then passes through a series of four resonators and a filter that lets you create more sound design-centric sounds.

Take a listen to how both MonasteryGrand and MonasteryGrandCreative sound below.

MonasteryGrand is built to work on MeldaProduction’s MSoundFactory platform. Learn more and download it for yourself at meldaproduction.com
