Melodics Playground Mode

Melodics, the desktop app that teaches you keys, finger drumming and electronic drums, has introduced Playground mode. This new feature enables you to record yourself improvising over lessons, strengthening your ability to evaluate playing habits in the process.

You can access Playground mode after successfully completing each lesson. It works by letting you free play over the lesson to hone your improvisational skills and your confidence in playing the instrument. If you’re learning the keys, for example, you’ll be given chord suggestions to help with key and harmony knowledge and inform your playing decisions.

“We wanted to be really sure that anyone who’d made good progress with Melodics would feel confident to go beyond just being good at passing lessons in the app,” says Melodics CEO Sam Gribben, “The real test is being able to sit down and play, without any of the assistance Melodics provides.”

The second major function of Playground mode is the ability to record free play so that you can critically listen back to your playing. This is because we listen differently when we’re playing and when we’re not.

When you’re playing, it can be difficult to notice small mistakes or happy accidents. With Playground mode, the developers are trying to help you notice and correct bad habits before they become ingrained.

Gribben continues: “Experienced musicians know that one of the best ways to check your progress is to record yourself and listen back. It can be cringe-inducing if you’re not used to it! But there’s no better way to get better.”
