Plugin Alliance’s Amek EQ200 has vintage hardware DNA

Plug-in based on legendary GML 8200 EQ is the first in a new Amek range.

Plugin Alliance brings back the iconic Amek name, teaming up with Brainworx to announce the Amek EQ 200 – a software mastering EQ inspired heavily by hardware EQs of yesteryear like the GML 8200 EQ.

Developed by Brainworx, the Amek EQ 200 pays homage to pioneering features of 70s and 80s hardware EQs, with particular attention paid to parametric control, surgical precision, and extreme transparency.

As such, the Amek EQ 200 is a seven-band EQ with five overlapping, fully-parametric bands, high- and low-pass filters, high- and low- shelving EQs, and a 15dB boost or cut for each band.

With the onboard Auto Listen mode, music-makers can audition adjustments in isolation for greater precision, while a single-button Mid/Side mode allows quick but dramatic adjustments to the width and depth of a mix.

Supplementing features also include a Mono Maker, which sums low frequencies for a more “focused, punchy bass response”, and Stereo Width options, which can be used to expand the perceived stereo width of the track.

Like other Brainworx plug-ins, the Amek EQ 200 uses the company’s Tolerance Modelling Technology, which simulates differences caused by component tolerances in analogue equipment to produce a more realistic analogue sound. Additional saturation can also be dialled in with a variable Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) control.

According to Plugin Alliance, the Amek EQ 200 plug-in is the first in a new series under the iconic Amek brand.

The Amek EQ 200 is available in AAX, AU, VST2 and VST 3 formats at an introductory price of $349.99; reverting to $399 after 30 June. Additionally, it will be included on Plugin Alliance’s monthly and annual Mega Bundle Subscriptions.
