Reason Studios has announced Reason 12, which will arrive on 1 September 2021. In the coming weeks, however, subscribers to Reason+ may start seeing some of those new features popping up in their DAWs ahead of release day.

Major additions to Reason 12 include a brand new sampler, high-resolution graphics, and an overhauled Combinator. The company is preparing to show off the new features in greater detail leading up to launch day – for now, this is what they had to share…

Improved Sampling Capabilities

Greater attention has been placed on the DAW’s sampling capabilities, allowing users to manipulate audio from a collection of samples, something recorded off the cuff, or even from within the session itself. Reason Studios teased other “cool features” of the sampler to be shown off soon, including ones related to time stretching and sample playback.

An Overhauled Combinator

The beloved Combinator, an essential part of Reason’s workflow, is getting a major overhaul. According to the brand, we can expect it to be more powerful, customisable and easier to program than previous iterations.

Although we’ll have to wait to find out what’s new, Reason teased the ability to create custom interfaces, set up expressive macro controls, add images, adjust panel sizes and more in the latest version of Combinator.

Graphical Refresh

Reason 12 will be receiving high-resolution graphics that allow you to zoom in on each device, making it easier to hone in on specific devices to make precise adjustments. Not only that, but third-party Rack Extensions will also be available in high-resolution upon launch.

Updates first for Reason+ subscribers

Subscribers to Reason+ will be seeing some of the aforementioned updates showing up in the DAWs ahead of launch day. The service is available for $/€20 monthly and, on top of access to Reason itself, gives you access to hundreds of sound packs, plus new ones every week.

Stay tuned for more on Reason 12 as we know it…
