Reason Studios Friktion

Renowned Swedish software developer, Reason Studios, has introduced a new Reason Rack Extension plug-in, Fritkion Modeled Strings. The instrument is designed to provide realistic and expressive string sounds that can be played by all types of producers and musicians.

Reason‘s Friktion is a physical modelling synth, digitally emulating the tones of different strings of various materials, as well as emulating the resonance from a selection of instrument bodies. The plug-in features detailed sound-shaping parameters, offering nuanced control over finger placement, bow pressure and string dampening.

You can choose from Friktion’s range of articulations to create organic-sounding performances with styles like bowing, pluck, harmonics, vibrato, tremolo and more. Articulations can be mapped to a MIDI controller and manipulated in real-time, along with expected performance controls like glide, to create convincing, versatile string parts. These expressions can form as part of a unique performance or recorded into the DAW with automation for more interesting productions.

“The magic with Friktion is how great it feels to play it,” says Mattias Häggström Gerdt, Reason Studios’ product manager. “With just a regular MIDI keyboard, you can easily conjure up incredibly emotive performances – both with violin instruments and strings yet unheard”.

Friktion is made specifically for the Reason Rack, which can be used in any DAW as aVST3, AU or AAX plug-in or as a standalone app. By purchasing the Reason Rack, you’ll also have access to other well-loved virtual instruments and synths within the legendary music-making software. Friktion Modeled Strings is immediately available as a separate purchase or as a free 30-day trial in the Reason Shop:

Friktion Modeled Strings is priced at $99/€109. Find out more at reasonstudios.com
