From managing sound and lighting sets to MCing at events, mobile DJs are often called on for tasks that go beyond simply mixing songs. With these challenges in mind, Roland has released DJ-707M, a Serato-ready, four-channel controller that’s a live sound console, loudspeaker management system and robust DJ performance unit all in one. Here are the details:
Clean sound, Scene presets
The DJ-707M is designed to deliver the “loudest, cleanest sound possible”. This is achieved via a number of components, including an in-built 24-bit/48 kHz audio interface and premium Roland D/A conversion for the controller’s three outputs: Master, Booth and Zone.
Each of the three outputs also boasts independent loudspeaker management settings, which comprise a four-band EQ, multiband compression, limiter and mono mode. You can also save these settings – along with audio-routing preferences – to 10 onboard ‘Scenes’ for future recall.
Serato DJ Pro-compatible, in-built sounds
In the same vein as its recently released controllers, Roland has tailor-made the DJ-707M to work with Serato DJ Pro software. The new device has dedicated Serato controls for you to trigger hot cues, loops, effects and drum patterns. It also boasts assignable hardware Filter/FX controls that let you “finesse blends or accentuate scratches”, according to Roland. Should you wish to steer away from the Serato features, the DJ-707M’s standalone mixer can be used with CDJs, turntables and mics.
The DJ-707M arrives with new in-built sounds sampled from Roland’s TR-909 and TR-808 drum machines. Joining these are what Roland calls “launchable preset rhythms”, which you can deploy to add punch, modify transitions, or craft instrumental accompaniments.
Wealth of I/O
The DJ-707M boasts a total of seven inputs, including four RCA inputs, two studio-ready XLR mic inputs, as well as a single 1/4-inch auxiliary input. Each mic channel sports controls for gain, low-cut and noise gate, and can also be modified with reverbs, delays and key-based modulation.
Complementing the above I/O are dual USB inputs that allow you to run two Serato setups on different computers. You can also connect an iOS device to the USB inputs for music playback.
