Spitfire Audio Hauschka composer toolkit

Spitfire Audio has teamed up with German composer Hauschka on a toolkit that distils his famously unpredictable sounds. Whether it’s industrial-like percussive rhythms, massive basslines or atonal plucks, this collection is tailored to those seeking out new sonic plains.

Hauschka, real name Volker Bertelmann, is an expert pianist and Oscar-nominated film composer whose resume includes scoring for the 2016 biographical drama Lion and the 2018 thriller Adrift. His experience in scoring has been condensed into 40 original preparations, 50 curated presets and a whopping 16,000 samples.

The 40 preparations, while available as organic sounds, can also be tweaked with four main options. These include Hauschka’s pedalboard, Spitfire’s distortion, the Binson Echorec and effects sampled from the modular synth rig of Francesco Donadello, Hauschka’s long-time collaborator.

The Hauschka composer toolkit is presented in six instrument sections: Plug Hits Grid, Plug Rhythms Grid, Pad Sounds Grid, Pad Hits, Swells Grid and Drum Kit. A standout is Plug Rhythms Grid, a category of multi-layered textures created by playing rhythms against a backdrop of tea lights and ping pong balls bouncing or flying off strings.

Here’s an introduction to the toolkit:
