Teenage Engineering adds drum and synth sampling to OP-Z
The OP-1 successor evolves.
Teenage Engineering has released a v1.2.5 update for OP-Z, adding a new sampling mode to the portable synth/sequencer. With sampling now in the bank, OP-Z is arguably on par with its OP-1 predecessor in terms of functionality.
Sampling on OP-Z can be carried out via three input sources: the built-in mic, headset mic or USB. As for available sampling types, OP-Z boasts both drum and synth sampling modes. The drum option lets you sample kicks, snares and percussion, which can be mapped across a 24-note keyboard. The synth mode, on the other hand, lets you sample familiar sounds like basses, leads, arpeggiators and chords.
V1.2.5 also updates the device’s recording capabilities – You can now connect the instrument to a computer via USB for recording, and conversely, send digital audio to the OP-Z for sampling.
Last, but not least, this firmware update adds full support for the gain, play direction and playmode settings of the OP-1 sample format, meaning you can be assured that audio files ported over will sound the same on both devices.
