Twisted Electrons hapiNES L

The Twisted Electrons hapiNES L

Twisted-Electrons has lifted the lid on a couple of new synths: the hapiNES L and Acid8 MKIII. The former is a souped-up version of the hapiNES chiptune device while the latter is a redesigned Acid8 bassline synthesiser.

hapiNES L

Like its forebear, this nifty synth is inspired by the RP2A07 sound chip featured in the NES game console. It has, however, been beefed up with Class AB preamp, hardware MIDI input and analogue sync in/out connection points – all encased in a metal enclosure.

It also packs a host of sonic options, broken down below:

  • Four voices:
    • A triangle bass
    • Two square waves with variable pulse widths
    • 59 synthesised drum sound presets and a self-evolving drum sound
  • 16 arpeggiator modes with adjustable speeds
  • 16 pattern memory with 256 steps

This unit is the third version of the Acid8 8-bit synth. Though its form remains similar to the MKII, its internals have been redesigned with these new features:

  • An all-digital filter:
    • The analogue filter has been replaced to deliver more immediate handling
  • Real-time tools:
    • Transposition automation
    • Filter wobbler
    • Stutter
    • Vinyl spin-down effect
  • Dual oscillators:
    • Delivering fat, harmonised sounds

Along with these upgrades, this device also features hardware MIDI input and analogue sync in/out points, just like the hapiNES L.

Both synths support VST/AU formats. Retails at €255 each. More info at twisted-electrons.com.
