Unfiltered Audio Lion Synth GUI

After innovative plug-ins like the multi-fx BYOME and spectral-effects behemoth SpecOps, Unfiltered Audio has debuted its first synth: Lion. This tool aims to dominate in aspects of “quick patching, endless experimentation and intuitive sound design”.

At Lion’s heart are two oscillators, each with 26 algorithms (or modes). These span familiar options such as FM synthesis, subtractive and additive waveforms, noise and more. The synth also features Drift and Unison modes, which both help to give you a leg-up on sound-sculpting right before the external effects stage.

A neat feature of Lion is its range of effects ported over from BYOME. These are displayed in a row, providing you a more streamlined view of assembling FX chains and modulating them with incoming MIDI notes. Lion also includes BYOME’s randomisation feature – with the click of a button, you’ll be exposed to the array of variations possible with factory or user-created presets.

Elsewhere, Lion equips you with a wealth of distinct mixing algorithms. Along with the standard crossfader, you’ll have experimental options such as Bitwise operations, Bidirectional Sample & Hold, Ring Modulation, Min/Max, Wave Terrains and what the brand calls “direct comparison operators”. With the experimental algorithms, you’ll be able to spice up the blend between both oscillators, creating some “wildly creative” sounds in the process.

All of these features are housed within Lion’s clean user interface, which appears as a single page without any tabs.

Lion will arrive next month. In the meantime, check out this short teaser:
