SpazeDrum is an analogue drum synth and sequencer from Gotharman, and boasts four analogue voices each with four parts, totalling sixteen different parts. With this in mind, it’s possible to programme in four variations of the same sound, or four different sounds for some quirky beats. These will cut each other off when being played back, too.
Four to the floor
The drum oscillator of each part can be set up to one of four configurations, analogue percussion, analogue cymbal, analogue clap or as a synthesiser. Each configuration contains dual oscillators, with different waveforms to choose from and sound-shaping parameters like Shape, Buzz and G-Ray feedback. These can all be modulated by FM via sources like square waves, noise, and other oscillators.
The sounds then pass through two digital multimode filters, parallel to each other. After this, two insert effects processors can be used to colour the signal, with chorus, distortion, bit crush, pitch shifting, time stretch, delays, EQ, filters, compressor, expander, bass enhancer, variator and sample pitch. Each effect can be placed before or after the VCA and up to three parameters can be modulated at a time. Two output effect processors can be used in the last stage to add reverb, delay, granulator, sample pitch, time stretch and variator.
SpazeDrum has 16 note tracks with one track for each part. Each part can be played for up to 64 steps, with timing settings from 1/64 to 1/1, plus triplet options. Each note track has five sub-tracks: Note number, gate time, velocity, position and sub-position. The values for each of these sub-tracks, is set separately for each step. Notes can be recorded in realtime, in steps and in X0X style, and all the sub-tracks can be edited.
64 Knob Tracks can be used for modulating parameters, and each of these can be up to 64 steps long, with their resolution also set between 1/64 and 1/1 with triplet options. A Smooth parameter can be used to smoothen the transition between each step. SpazeDrum’s tempo ranges from 51 BPM to 306 BPM.
Most parameters can be modulated by modulation sources like 16 global multi waveform LFO’s, three envelopes per part, four random generators per part, four knobs and knob tracks per part and MIDI velocity and CC’s.
