Amazon is reportedly investing in live audio features that will start with concerts and later expand into talk shows and podcasts.
The effort is said to be led by Amazon Music and will let users access live performances through their accounts. Axios claims the company has already been talking to major record labels about events with their artists.
Live audio could be the company’s way of widening the types of content it can offer customers who own Amazon smart speaker products with Alexa. While the effort is said to be focused on live music first, talk radio programs and podcasts are expected to follow as an extension to the plan.
Amazon was also said to be looking into integrating those live audio features into the livestreaming service Twitch, which it has owned since 2014.
Earlier this year, Spotify dipped its toes into virtual concerts with five shows performed by The Black Keys, Rag’n’Bone Man, Jack Antonoff, Leon Bridges and girl in red. The streaming giant was also reported to be looking into ticketing for virtual and in-person events in the future.
Similarly, Twitter Spaces launched ticketed live events earlier this week for some iOS users, allowing hosts to charge between $1 to $999 for entry to a ticketed room.
