While the curated jazz playlists of Spotify and Apple Music are ideal for the casual jazz listener, real connoisseurs may wish to turn their heads to the new kid on the block chord – jazzed. The new audio-visual streaming service is completely dedicated to the umbrella genre of jazz, offering an ”integrated experience for fans to listen, watch and read about the music they love”, the company says.

Not limiting itself to hosting a library of music, jazzed features a variety of content, including curated audio channels, exclusive editorial and video content, podcasts, documentaries, interviews and more. The company promise the service to be an “endless source of discovery” for jazz heads in the UK, at a time where jazz is experiencing a rapid rise in popularity.

jazzed not only focuses on traditional jazz music but also recognises the dialogue the genre has had with popular culture since its inception. Artists and compositions are featured on the platform that ranges from early pioneers to celebrated icons and hip hop samplists to Latin Bossa Nova beats.

Touted as “THE place to hear brilliant new jazz, all the time”, jazzed is led by CEO Jonathan Arendt, who believes he has seen a gap in the market. “There’s strong evidence that mainstream streaming services are not meeting the needs of specialist music fans. We know that jazz listeners are interested in a deeper experience than offered by mainstream platforms and believe that jazzed, with its rich artist meta-data, HD audio quality, premium video content and beautifully curated channels is the solution.”

The subscription service upon launch will feature two tiers – jazzed, an ad-funded freemium tier with 10 audio channels, plus video and editorial offerings, and jazzed+, a premium tier costing £5.99 per month, offering a deeper curated experience of over 40 channels and over 1000 videos.

Later this year, the company will launch jazzed premium, a full on-demand tier providing a larger audio and video catalogue of jazz and its derivative genres, all in HD quality.

jazzed is available on iOS, web player and via SONOS. Find out more at jazzed.com
