KMI K-Mix Blue

Keith McMillen Instruments has released the K-Mix Blue Edition, building on the original 2016 K-Mix with new low-noise preamps, new finish and full Ableton Live 11 control surface integration.

KMI’s updated portable mixer, audio interface and controller combo sports a royal blue ABS-polycarbonate finish, which the brand says is ultra-durable. It also looks as though many of the buttons are backlit with a slightly darker shade of blue than the original K-Mix. Of course, it’s still got those multi-coloured faders and pads.

The California brand has upgraded the preamps on K-Mix Blue, with ultra low-noise µPre preamps on the two XLR/TRS combo inputs. K-Mix Blue has eight balanced inputs in total, with a headphone mini-jack, micro USB connectivity and a USB port for expanded MIDI connections.

K-Mix Blue comes with control surface integration for Ableton Live 11, for swift navigation of the DAW. You can use the K-Mix Blue’s touch-responsive faders and rotary surfaces to get hands-on with Live 11, along with other transport buttons.

In our review of the original K-Mix, we said: “The K-Mix is one of the most useful devices of its type around, akin to the excellent iConnectivity products, in terms of targeting the needs of real-world modern electronic musicians and producers.

“The K-Mix is absolutely worth the money, and of course, the street price is way lower than the official price stated here. Mobile or small-studio producers who are tight for space and need a lot of features, with great audio, should check it out.”

Keith McMillen Instruments’ K-Mix Blue is available now for $599. Learn more at keithmcmillen.com.
