Designed by audio-visual artist Josep Garcés, LiveLoop is a new DAW that is pretty much what it says on the tin – a live looping environment. Esteemed Grammy-nominated producer BT is one of the many artists who have already sung its praises, stating: “[LiveLoop] seems like a breakthrough and an alternative to many previous solutions, and I am not talking only about hardware devices but also software platforms such as Ableton [Live]”.

LiveLoop appears to be intentionally stripped back for practicality. Consequently, the software provides 16 tracks to lay down ideas, with overdubbing available to add layers to each track. In true minimalist fashion, LiveLoop gives you just one button for recording, stopping, playing and clearing.

Six looping modes are available to jam off-the-grid or keep things locked in. Sync will keep parts synchronised with one another, while Free lets you loop off beat and for as long as you wish. Beat Quantized seems like a little more fun, offering isorhythmic quantisation, letting you create polyrhythms with loops kept in time to the beat. One Shot mode simply means you hold down the record button for the length you want it the loop to be. Freeze can create drone sounds by freezing the incoming audio, and lastly, File Upload allows you to open and play audio and keep it synchronised with your loops.

LiveLoop features Hands-free Looping, triggering a recording with another piece of audio. MIDI mapping can be accessed to set up your favourite controllers and create a workflow that is effective for you. The software syncs with Ableton Link and can integrate with VST and MFL plug-ins.

LiveLoop Sequencer

The 256 Step Sequencer, available with LiveLoop Pro, is ideal for drums and rhythmic loops, keeping everything in sync with your loops. More features include Multi-Channel Loops, Grouping Loops, Transpose Loops, Session recording, Loop-the-Loop and more.

A statement on the website says: “With LiveLoop, you experience new creative ways of composing and experimenting with sound, create professional live performances and recordings with one versatile and user-friendly interface”.

LiveLoop can be trialled for 30 days at a price of €2, with the Lite version costing €149 as a one-time payment or €5 per month. LiveLoop Pro is priced at €299 for a one-time payment or at €15 per month.
