As record stores across the globe face an uncertain future as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Move The Record has swooped in to rally up support from the music community.
The initiative comes in collaboration with German house DJ, Dana Ruh, and German nightclub, KMA60 Berlin. The first edition of Move The Record events will be taking place across Friday 3 July and Saturday 4 July, comprising two 12-hour streaming broadcasts from a range of record stores around the world. The live streams will feature resident DJs as well as special guest artists, with each two-hour DJ set flowing into the next.
As these shows take place, customers will be able to take advantage of a 20% discount across participating stores’ online marketplace for 48 hours. This is to encourage the community to invest in their local crate-digging spot.
By contributing to the initiative, supporters will be enrolled into a sweepstake with a chance to win vinyl, hardware, studio sessions productions courses and merchandise. Participating brands in the sweepstake include Ortofon, Ableton, Factory Berlin, Native Instruments, Point Blank Music School, R&S, Pressure Traxx, Mute Records, Warner Music and more. 100% of the proceeds will be distributed among the participating stores.
Mute Records, Warner Music and more. 100% of the proceeds will be distributed among the participating stores.
“I bought my first record at Undergrounder in Gera, back in 1995.” says Dana Ruh, “I still have it. A record is a physical medium, a piece of art — from the music, to the pressing, to the cover design.
“We all — artists, clubs, labels, distribution, pressing plants — are facing uncertain times as a direct result of the Covid crisis” Dana continues. “Our industry is all connected, and many people have already lost their jobs. Clubs are closed; performing artists have lost their primary source of income; record stores — our cultural hubs of community and discovery — are struggling to stay afloat. So on July 3 and 4, myself and 11 other stores around the world will come together to support one another. It’s all connected. We are all connected.”
