LOFI GLOW NI

Although we’ve seen our fair share of plug-ins designed to add lo-fi warmth to your music (recently Super VHS and denise audio Bad Tape), we seldom come across instruments already equipped with vintage tones. Enter LO-FI GLOW from Native Instruments, a Kontakt instrument part of the brand’s Play Series of instruments.

With 128 sounds on offer, including bass, keys, organs, pads, plucks and mallets, you can instantly start creating vintage sounds. 150 presets are on offer to quickly set up an instrument and get playing. You can equip up to two instruments to your keyboard at once, allowing you to play bass on the lower notes, for example, and mallets on the higher notes.

You can create flexible patterns with a 16-step sequencer, with control over pitch, velocity and each of the six macros. Root key, swing, scale, steps and more are also featured on the interface. “To create this instrument, vintage synths, keys, organs, guitars, and bass, were recorded in the highest quality, then processed through effects pedals, tape decks, and samplers like the SP-404 – resulting in distinctive sounds for instant lo-fi melodics”, Native Instruments states on the LO-FI GLOW webpage.

A dedicated FX section lets you get stuck into sound shaping with a filter, saturation, bitcrusher, Swirl, phaser and reverb. These parameters can be quickly adjusted on other pages thanks to a dedicated macro control panel at the bottom of the window.

Until 16 March, you can buy LO-FI GLOW and get the Expansion, FADED REELS for half price.

LO-FI GLOW is available now for £44. Find out more at native-instruments.com
