Nerdseq Portable takes tracker sequencing and sampling mobile
Can your handheld gaming console do this?
Will 2020 be the year that trackers make a return? Around the same time of the release of Polyend Tracker, XOR Electronics launched a portable version of its Nerdseq Eurorack tracker module.
Nerdseq Portable is a full workstation with sampling, MIDI I/O, modulators, sound generators and more, with eight tracks of polyphonic tracker sequencing that can be routed to internal sounds. Adding a Nerd-Sound-Adapter module lets you route sounds via the CV16 or Trigger16 into your Euroack system. The sequencer also allows independent use of tracks for live performance, including clip-like launching patterns and Launchpad support.
The built-in sampler is used for playback and recording with pitch and polyphonic sequencing capabilities, plus onboard sampling effects. You can record and play your samples in 16bit stereo format, with around 150 seconds of sampling time at your fingertips. A line input and microSD connectivity can let you load in samples.
Nerdseq Portable gives you 254 sequencer rows, 254 patterns with 64 steps, and 64 tables with 16 or fewer steps. 254 patches and instruments are available off the bat, with 32 sample slots, and eight automation slots. There should be plenty of room for experimentation and creativity in this compact, clever little device.
Essentially, this is everything you’d get in the original Nerdseq, stripped into a handheld package. Modulators include Automation, Wavetables, Quantization, Retrigger, LFO, polyrhythmic patterns, Groove, Probability, Dividers, Multipliers, Sound Generation and more.
XOR Electronics says “the release is planned for late summer 2020, but could be delayed due to the Covid-19 problematic. We will keep you informed and updated about the progress”.
