Demo: AMS Neve revives hardware AMS RMX16 reverb for 500 series
The RMX16 was the world’s first microprocessor-controlled, full-bandwidth digital reverberator… now it’s back.
NAMM 2020: AMS Neve has announced the return of its famous RMX16 in hardware format as part of the brand’s popular 500 Series range.
The RMX16 500 Digital Reverb Module employs an 18kHz bandwidth like the original while possessing an impressive 90dB dynamic range and 0.03% distortion in delay mode. The unit also brings some new features to the table, such as a rotary push encoder for setting adjustment, a wet/dry mix blend function and a save/recall feature with 100 user-defined memory slots.
Of note is how the RMX16 500 was designed by ear, much like the original RMX16. Each programme is tuned using ‘carpet graph’ parameter tables, interactively linked control by control. To that end, the RMX16 500 comes loads with 18 factory programmes, including the iconic Ambience, Nonlin and Reverse algorithms.
Other features include adjustable input and output levels for an optimal signal-to-noise ratio, and independent control of each programme’s parameters. There are also Nudge buttons for data increment/decrement and alphanumeric programme descriptions for storing and recalling information for the unit’s memory.
The RMX16 500 also has a crisp new OLED display that continuously displays all data, including variables like pre-delay, decay time, high-frequency decay profile and low-frequency decay profile. The unit also features low power consumption, thereby ensuring cool running.
