Pro audio brand PreSonus has expanded its Eris family with Sub8, a compact active eight-inch subwoofer that is designed from the ground up to complement the whole Eris range, as well as other monitors. The Eris series is suited to a range of media applications, including music production and mixing, gaming, and home theatre.

PreSonus says the Sub8 is perfect for adding “serious bass” to the Eris E3.5, E3.5 BT, E4.5, or E4.5 BT media reference monitors. Given their compact nature, the Eris monitors and the Sub8 are ideal for smaller rooms and studios – although they can still pack a punch. The Sub8 is powered by a 100 watt Class A/B amplifier offering powerful, accurate low end down to 30 Hz. The Eris 3.5s, by contrast, only reach down to 80Hz, so if you’re looking for a bass boost, the Sub8 could be useful.

On the back of the Eris Sub8 are unbalanced RCA and balanced quarter-inch TRS inputs and outputs, with an input level control and a polarity invert switch. Thanks to this pleasing range of connectivity options, you might be saved the hassle of looking for an appropriate adapter for hooking it up to your other audio devices.

There is a high-pass filter switch and a variable low-pass crossover control, allowing you to set the low-frequency threshold where your monitors stop working. The low-pass filter ranges from 50Hz to 130Hz, while the high-pass removes frequency content below 80Hz from the signal sent to the rest of the sound system.

Producers with an Eris monitor system may benefit the most from the Sub8, but those who are also sporting a small setup may want to consider this for their low-end needs, too.

PreSonus’ Eris Sub8 is available now with a price tag of £185. Find out more at presonus.com.
