“Why did we add a wobbly worm to our latest plugin? We can’t really answer that with a straight face, but in these serious times, why not?”, rhetorically asks W.A Production. Punchy Worm is the latest plug-in from Redhead Roman’s software development company. Packing multiple effects into one plug-in with a one-knob approach, Punchy Worm offers punch and saturation, with upward and downward compression. We’ve also seen another one-knob saturator recently with VocalMint Saturator.
Rotating the main knob to the left will add more punch to your sounds while dialling it to the right will add warmth and saturation. Naturally, the further you push the dial, the more brutal transient shaping and saturated harmonics come into play. Below the main knob are two controls for input and output to drive your sounds even more. Clicking the Punchy Worm logo will bypass the effect for quick A/B’ing.
The leaf atop the rosy red apple is responsible for oversampling, which can be toggled between x1, x2 or x4 interval oversampling. “ Careful use of this control will reduce unwanted noise from digital aliasing”, W.A Production advises.
“With just a couple of simple controls, Punchy Worm keeps you concentrated on the most important thing about your music… the sound. Trust your ears to tell you what sounds good and let the dancing worm take the strain”, the brand says.
Punchy Worm is compatible with Windows 7 or higher (32 / 64 bit). Mac OSX 10.7 or higher (64 bit) in VST, AU and AAX format. Note that Punchy Worm AAX is only compatible with Pro Tools 11 or higher.
Punchy Worm is available now at an introductory price of $10. Find out more at waproduction.com.
