Every year, on 8 August, Roland pays tribute to the 808 in unique ways. On 808 Day 2019, the brand has uploaded a mini-documentary focused on Larry Smith’s personal TR-808. This device was responsible for the signature rhythms on the albums of Run DMC, Beastie Boys and Whodini.

In the video, producers Larry Smith Jr and Rashad Smith reflect on this particular TR-808 and the iconic 808 sound. The device is then brought to students at the 1500 Sound Academy in Los Angeles who use with it and learn more about its storied history.
