Roswell Audio has showcased its new Mini K87 at AES New York 2019. The mic takes its inspiration from Roswell Audio’s own Mini K47, although this time aiming for a flatter, more transparent response than its predecessor. This design choice is to allow for the natural character of the sound to shine through without any colouring.

The large-diaphragm, transformerless cardioid condenser mic comes packaged in a small form factor, much like the Mini K47. Roswell Audio told us that it’s ideal for recording vocals, especially for podcasters, as well as drum overheads, acoustic strings and more. Although this is merely a preview of the Mini K87, the company has received early reviews from select users, claiming that the feedback is “very positive so far”.

Roswell Audio’s Mini K87 comes with a shock mount upon purchase, although this shock mount is slightly different to the traditional ones we are used to. The front of the mount is cut away, to allow for up-close recording without being limited by the front of a shock mount. It is also built with silicon O rings, as opposed to the usual elastic band approach, to minimise resonance from bleeding sources. The intention is to keep in line with maintaining a natural, transparent recording.

The Mini K87 is available now, and comes at a price of $399. Find out more at roswellproaudio.com
