Spitfire Audio LABS Bass Guitar

Spitfire Audio has added to its collection of free instruments with LABS Bass Guitar, featuring four classic bass sounds and seven controls.

LABS Bass Guitar’s four presets include Warm Bass Amped, Warm Bass DI, Classic Bass Amped and Classic Bass DI. Spitfire Audio says these sounds should cover you for “smooth and soulful to punchy and driven” styles. They’ve also all been recorded and re-amped by Leo Wyatt, who used a vintage Ampeg at Hackney’s Premises Studios.

Bass Guitar is hosted in Spitfire Audio’s LABS plug-in, as with all of its LABS instruments. Those familiar with these instruments will notice that the parameters of Bass Guitar will be identical to others in the LABS collection. The fader on the far left of the interface controls the amplitude, while the second fader controls dynamics. The dynamics fader will minimise the effect of velocity whilst playing, with only one level of velocity when set to the full amount.

In the centre of the plug-in is a multi-effects knob. This allows you to dial in the amount of reverb, tightness, variation, attack, and release of Bass Guitar. With some tweaking, you can transform the electric bass tones into deep, sustained sounds fit for a range of genres.

To gain access to Spitfire Audio’s LABS collection, you simply need to create an account using your email address. LABS Bass Guitar can run on macOS – both Intel and M1 macs are supported – and Windows in 64-bit DAWs. The LABS plug-in runs as a VST2, VST3, AAX and AU, making it compatible with major DAWs.
