Tracklib

Stockholm-based sample service, Tracklib, is a one-of-a-kind service that lets you instantly find and legally clear samples. A complete overhauled user interface and an upgraded pricing model offers improved functionality and loads more music to sample. If you’re tempted by the service, Tracklib is now offering a free trial period that allows users to download between seven to 15 CD-quality tracks.

To celebrate the update, Tracklib is hosting a competition together with rapper Styles P, giving up-and-coming producers the chance to produce his new single. Create a track based on samples from Tracklib and show off your skills to win. A similar competition with Wu-Tang Clan’s Inspectah Deck last year received thousands of entries from 45 countries.

What’s new?

Over 1,000 new tracks have been uploaded with the update, including individual stems and multitracks from Sly & Robbie, Les Baxter, Blowfly, The Stylistics, Jackie DeShannon and more. With a catalogue that spans from 1928 to 2020, from Mozart to Isaac Hayes, Tracklib has been used by hip-hop big-hitters Mary J. Blige, Phantogram, DJ Khaled and Lil Wayne. J.Cole’s 5x Platinum single Middle Child was also built around a sample found on Tracklib.

The mobile version of Tracklib has been improved, with the introduction of a full-screen player. One-click downloads and better browsing functionality with filtering and more information offer a much faster workflow, plus more detailed waveforms to quickly locate a sample in a track.

You can now Favourite tracks you come across, a swift solution to saving songs you love. Song lists can now be viewed in both compact and standard views, and a Dark Mode has been introduced – all features that have been requested by Tracklib’s userbase.

Subscriptions

An easier and more affordable way to access Tracklib has been addressed with the new subscription services. Tracklib is moving to a three-tiered subscription model “aligned with the producer’s journey in mind, from what’s essential for an amateur playing around to what’s required of a dedicated professional”, the brand says.

The subscription tiers are as follows:

  • Essential – 5 track downloads each month ($5.99/month or $59.90/year)
  • Standard – 15 track downloads each month ($13.99/month or $139.90/year)
  • Professional – 35 track downloads each month ($29.99/month or $299.90/year)

Previously, all downloads were $1.99, whereas the introduction of subscriptions makes purchases “50% more affordable”, Tracklib states.

Those who purchase annual plans will get an additional two months free and anyone using Amuse, Reason, Serato and Songtrust get an extended trial period of 30 days. Tracklib will also give new users 15 free tracks.
