UK Sound announces a collection of 1073 based gear

The imprint of BAE Audio is targeting project studios with its new mic pres.

The Neve 1073 pre-amp/EQ was behind many classic recordings from the 1970s, and has subsequently become one of the most revered circuits in the music tech world. UK Sound, an imprint of BAE Audio, has released a collection of devices modelled after the 1073. This includes a new 1U rackmount 1073 Mic Pre/EQ, 73MP Single Channel and 73MP Dual Channel versions, and a compact 73MPL 500 Series Mic Pre unit.

The 1073 Mic Pre/EQ is UK Sound’s version of the original 1073 Mic Pre EQ, at a more affordable price. It is designed to provide authentic sound character to any input source, using similar same tonal shaping options available on the Neve 1073. The cosmetic design of 1073 features the same footprint as the original, but the circuitry is laid out on a printed circuit board. This reduces costs of labour to build each unit, making the price tag much more appealing to producers on a tighter budget. However, high-quality components are still included, and each unit is hand-built in Southern California, and despite the lower price, UK Sound say that you can still expect “the same quality assurance and support as BAE Audio devices”.

UK Sound’s 73MP Single Channel, Dual Channel and 73MPL 500 series each contain the mic pre-amp version of the 1073 EQ, along with its tonal features. Every unit also features OEP Carnhill inputs and two selectable impedances, which could make them suitable for a variety of mics. A line-level input can be used for adding depth to 2-bus mixes, and a DI input may also be used to add character to active and passive instruments.
